* For small drives (200 series) consult factory.

(Parts indented after an Item may be ordered with that item as a subassembly.)

Field Service Without Removal From The Engine

  1. The interior of the air motor of the model 200-FA can be exposed for cleaning and rotor vane (item 13) replacement without removing the starter from the engine.

  2. Remove eight end plate bolts (item 18). Then insert two of these bolts into the threaded holes in the end plate for use as a "puller".

  3. Remove the end plate by progressively tightening the two bolts until the end plate is free to remove by hand.

  4. Inspect for dirty parts, rust, foreign objects, vane wear, and freedom of rotation. Rotation will not occur if the starter pinion has engagement with the flywheel ring gear. It may be necessary to remove the starter from the engine if this condition exists.

  5. Clean all exposed parts and replace the rotor vanes (item 13) as necessary.

Disassembly and Assembly

  1. Before disassembly, mark the mating surfaces of the housings. During reassembly, align the housings to these marks.

  2. Refer to the exploded view for disassembly and assembly. Assemble the parts in the directions and relative positions as shown.

  3. Lubricate the gears (items 7, 28), thrust washer (item 29), and pilot bearings (items 23, 37) with Texaco Multipurpose 2 grease or equal.

Installation

Refer to PSI Bulletin Number STR-04.
